RELEASE DAY: “ameriCONa pt 1” is officially live! I made this album on an old tape machine from the early 90s that cost 350 bones. While our previous records were more 90s influenced, this pulls from the 60s and 70s.
Recently I have been fascinated by the production of old Dylan, velvet underground and Jonathan Richman records. I feel Lo-fidelity or “damaged” sounding music has more value than ever now that A.I. is making perfect plastic songs by the billions.
ameriCONA is also a commentary on the wild times in American politics and economics. It seems you can’t get to a supreme position of power without being some version of a con person, stretching the limits of the law and setting a precedent that morality is optional, or for the sheep. That’s ameriCONa.
The wealth gap has become more outrageous, the health insurance industry is a sketch fest, and inflation makes it unreasonable for most people to do simple things like go out to eat once per week. I pay a health insurance company $395 per month, then when I go to the doctor they still charge me another $100-300 on top. That’s ameriCONa.
Big love to the great bandmates Stevie biceps, and bad man anderson, who will hit the road with me starting tonight in milwaukee, Rockford, spring green, and mpls. Thanks to all who bypassed streaming with us and scooped up the album so far.
For years, we've tried to direct people to Spotify, but it just doesn't work. It's the Wal-Mart of music. Disposable.
This time, we're aiming to blow up the Bandcamp page. It's a much more music-appreciative platform and audience. Quality over quantity. So we need ya on release day to listen, buy and save tracks via Bandcamp (it all helps!): https://brettnewski.bandcamp.com/album/americona-pt-1-educate-freeloaders-to-buy-art
